What is the difference between Mass and a Sermon? I couldn't find a good explanation.

- The Mass is the entire Catholic service, the sermon is a part of it, a short talk given after the gospel reading that explains the readings or teachings important doctrines.
- I can't hear Mass.
- Mass is the Catholic church service you attend. Each mass will have three readings. One from the old testament, one from the new testament and the priest or deacon will read from one of the gospels. Then the priest or deacon will deliver a sermon or homily as Catholics call them.
- The Mass is the entire book of revelation all rolled into one---but, especially it is the Holy Eucharist (Eucharist means Thanksgiving) which basically means we offer bread and wine to the Almighty Father and he changes it into the body and blood of his son so our death will have meaning and atone for our sins because we are married to Jesus through our baptism and because of this marriage our punishment for our sins he endured but his reward for his obedience we have a share of too. Much more than a sermon really---The mass is the Word of God fulfilled---the entire creation history fulfilled right there within a Catholic Church.
- I found a profound difference when i first began attending Mass. I was raised Southern Baptist, and there's a little singing and they pass the collection plate, but 90% of the service is a sermon -- a monologue. But Mass is more like visiting family for a meal, it's something You DO, not just something You listen to.
