How long should a church sermon last? I notice that when sermons go for more than 15 minutes, it's a sign that the priest didn't really prepare or organize his thoughts in advance. It seems the spiritual content of a sermon decreases as the length of lapsed time increases. My personal opinion is that a well-thought out message can be delivered in 5-8 minutes and will be more easily remembered.
Why did Evangelist Kennedy recently add a prayer for the Presidency & Congress after each sermon? Although Pastor D. James Kennedy died last year his show on TNB never stopped. They rebroadcast only the ones with criticisms appropriate to the present government. His daughter now has a prolog and an epilog for each show. Three weeks ago she added a prayer for the President and Congress which seems to contradict the intention of the day's sermon. It is jarring and puzzling to me because it seems to stand out from the content of the sermon. A curse would be more appropriate, not a prayer. Why have they added the prayer and does it strike you the same as me?
How can I make a sermon about the theme "Beyond a Lame Faith"? I volunteered to write part of the message/sermon for the youth sunday service. The theme is "Beyond a Lame Faith." The message is supposed to be about helping people put shoes on their faith and encouraging people to avoid being stuck in one stage of faith and instead grow in their Christian walk. Do you have any references I could use, or any ideas that I can get started with?
How can I write a good sermon? I have to write a sermon on the Golden Rule but I am having some problems. Could you please help me or give me some suggestions on this topic? It would be very much appreciated.
Fellow Catholics; What was the sermon about at your church today? Not the three bible readings, but the actual sermon. At my church the deacon read a story about how a little boy who was in a terrible accident (He was ht by a truck and his brain Pretty much fell out) was healed. When he received extreme unction, he lived. When he was baptized he could move his eyes and arms. When he was confirmed he was able to talk and walk normally. It was really a nice story. The Doctors and three nurses converted. Wether or not this was true, it was a nice story.
Would it be wise for Christians to preach the Sermon on the Mount, rather than blood for sin? The Sermon on the Mount was about the Golden Rule and other uplifting and commonly accepted principles. On the other hand, Christ didn't say a thing about God needing to be appeased by a blood sacrifice. He spoke in terms of God being a loving Father... not a deity in need of a sacrifice. Do you think it would be wise for Christians to return to what Christ was actually preaching to the multitudes... especially the things he preached in the most significant sermon of his ministry?
Sermon on the Mount question: What do the mockers inherit? The bible goes on for a long time about this and that group getting this and that in the end. I lose track and it is more than a little boring hunting for what your little niche gets in the end. Hoping some enlightened person can let me know what I can expect.
Was I the only one that was waiting to Huckabee to give a sermon last night? I am sorry, I don't care what the holy rollers do in their church, but we need a president...not a minister leading this country. No wonder people are running from the GOP. These holy rollers are going to force me to vote Democratic AGAIN!! Don't get me wrong...I don't have a problem with whatever it is religious people do in their church or their homes, but when they start preaching in the middle of a debate, they have gone too far.
He had the big crowd listening to him. Was the Sermon on the Mount a missed opportunity? Did Christ say anything about blood for sin at the Sermon on the Mount. And if not, why not? He had the big crowd listening to him. Did he miss his chance to explain how God needs to be appeased with sacrifice? Was he just wasting his time talking about how those ordinary people are the "Light of the World," and how they had to "let thine eye be single," and all those esoteric and surprising statements. Did he miss a golden opportunity to preach Paul's gospel of blood for sin? (more context on my bio)
What do you think of the sermon series about spectacular sins? interestingly there is a sermon series on line called "Spectacular Sins and Their Global Purpose in the Glory of Christ very interesting how God can have an overarching purpose even in the sin of man. Is it thought provoking? Can God have a long term purpose even in spectacular sins? http://www.desiringgod.org/resourcelibra... http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/BySeries/80/ sorry the last link works I musta copied something wrong

Do you think it is a coincidence that the Sermon on the Mount is about mercy, and not sacrifice? This verse made me rethink everything I was ever taught about Christianity: Christ himself said, "I will have mercy, and not sacrifice." And if that isn't enough, I also noticed that the Sermon on the Mount is all about Mercy, and Not Sacrifice. Do you think it was a coincidence that these two support each other, and do you think there is a lesson here for those who preach blood sacrifice in the name of Christ?
