:) > God???????? Happiness.... who doesn't want it? Isn't it the goal of everythign we do? People worship God so that He might make them happy. So if some how you were always happy (yes, i know, a paradox because happiness i relative) even if God sent you to hell, and you were still happy there, God wouldn't have power over you, would he? Unless He is omnipotent and can somehow force you to be unhappy, but some say he doesn't violate free will. And suposedly, smiling for 60 seconds makes you happy. So, can God defeat eternal happiness ( :) > God?)? LtColonel, it seems like an awfuly lot of people woship God so they will be blessed or go to heaven. Just listining to religious things, you will hear an abudance of thngs like: "go good and you will be blessed" or "Treat your neighbors well and you will go to heaven." So it seem like some of the reasons they give to worship God is that you will be rewarded. And rewards aren't really rewards if they aren't good/make you happy
Why did God make death horrendously painful for some, but blissfully peaceful for others? God-fearing people who've tithed and prayed fervently might end up meeting their fate is any number of grisly ways. Ironically, thoroughly evil people might simply pass away in their sleep, without suffering, just peacefully drift away into death's embrace. Why has God made death so easy for those who seem to have strayed from Its rules, and yet frequently so horrible for those who've committed to and worshipped It?
Does God think trying to make a better situation is selfish? Since we moved I've been laid off more than working for a little bit more than a year. My husband has a job (Thank God) and we are planning to more back so perhaps I have a better opportunity for work. But as the move becomes closer, I'm beginning to have second thoughts on moving. My husband tells me to have faith in God and our move will work out okay. I'm worried that perhaps the Lord looks at us as selfish for trying to make our situation better when others have it worse. What do you think?
Why does God allow the prince of evil to roam amongst the children he supposedly loves? Despite God having the power to remove him, Satan still runs rampant throughout our world. Satan is a predator, yet God allows his presence amongst us. Were a human being to do this, he would be considered an unfit parent.
Why did God let the Catholic Church burn and imprison scientists during the Inquisition? Dose God not like us to discover the workings of our planet and the universe? Is that just 'Gods' secret?
How can there be a God when good dogs die? I just had to put down my 3 year old Aussie. What a great dog. Certified in Pet Therapy, has brought two people out of coma's, and brought dozens of people happiness in the hospital. Some higher power decided to give this dog an unknown, can't be detected virus, or something that crippled him and made him unable to walk. It happened very fast, within 2 months, and I had to put him to sleep yesterday. I even went to churches where everyone prayed to God to help this poor creature. God really doesn't give a damn, does he? After reading all your wonderful things to say, some of you just ain't going to make "best answer".
Many people claim God intervened in their life in a positive way and that is why they believe? I'm curious as to the explanation those people will give for why God doesn't intervene in all people's lives to their advantage and to give them personal experience of Him. I looked for God when I went through a personal crisis, but God didn't intervene. If God does intervene, why is He so inconsistent? If God only intervenes in believer's lives, how come so many claim His intervention as a basis for their belief? Wouldn't that mean they were non-believers when God intervened?
Why did God kill so many innocent people during the times of Moses? Let me see if I get this straight.... Pharaoh enslaves God's chosen people to Egypt.. Clearly this is a dispute between God & Pharaoh. So why did God choose the route of killing thousands of innocent people to get a point across ? Is this the same God that the new testament speaks of ?
How do you live your life everyday without God talking to you? How do you do it? How do you know what God wants you to do? How do you know everything about life, without God telling you anything? How do you know what to do today, the next day, and the day after next, without hearing anything from God?
How did God kill the eskimos during the Great Flood? Icebergs float yes? There are icebergs the size of Manhattan, and they're composed of fresh drinkable water ice. They are unsinkable, they're immune to waves (the big ones are completely immune). And they make a great temporary shelter, and there's plenty of seals and fish to eat. The big icebergs can last for years, even in the sun Did God strike down the eskimos with lightning bolts since there's no way the flood could have killed them?
Christians: How do you distinguish God or religious experience from natural feelings towards an idea? I mean I can have the same sense of mystery and feeling thinking about God as I have towards any other extravagant experience. How do you know there's a difference or do you just believe there is?
Why did God create different languages after the tower of Babel? Someone else asked a question today about the Tower of Babel and God's ability to know everything. It made me wonder about the Tower of Babel. I am a Christian, but I am ignorant of the story of the Tower of Babel. All I know is that man was building it to reach the heavens. I am unclear about the rest. Something about God wanting to create different languages, so that people wouldn't understand one another? Why would he do something like that?
What would it take to make you believe in God or a God of a different religion? What would it take for you to either: Believe that God exists? Or, If you do believe in God, what would it take to make you believe in a God of a completely different religion? Like, let's say, believe in Zeus, or Odin.
Do Hanglider pilots pray to the God of wind? Is that what they are called,"Hanglider Pilots"? Does the God of wind have a name?
What is the best argument for the existence of God? I don't care if you believe in God, I just want to know what you think the best argument you've heard for his existence. For the sake of this question, assume that God is: 1. Eternal, or at least as old as the universe 2. Omnipresent, or at least capable of being many places at once 3. Omnipotent, or so powerful that we wouldn't understand his limitaions 4. Sensient (no Hagelian "Geist", I mean a god that knows he exists and that he is God.) 5. Purposeful. 6. Not "created" or "evolved" or other things that would make him just a better version of us. I am also asking the opposite question, and I would appreciate people answering both questions. I actually asked the opposite question as a different question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060710180542AAUzX6l&r=w So there are 10 points available for both answers if you answer the question in both places!
How do we have free will if God already knows what will happen to us? How is that free will if God knows what will happen to us and has a 'plan'? And another thing about God's so called plan; doesn't having a plan mean that you need to do planning thus changing our lives as humans? The last thing, how does God in-act his plan if humans have free will? *assuming that the Judeo-Christian God exists* I hope this question doesn't sound rude or anything... I just would like some answers to my pondering.
Did God created R&S to enable believers and nonbelievers to peacefully work out their differences? Or, is God capturing all Q&A to later use as evidence in the afterlife, to make it easier to separate the good from the bad, the white from the black, the angelic from the devilish?
Could it be that evolution and belief in God are the answers to different questions? Could it be possible that evolution and God are both true? Maybe science with the theory of evolution is answering how it was done. And God answers who did it and why? I mean there's evidence that there is something to evolution because if not, we couldn't develop medicines and medical techniques to save human lives. The more we learn about the animal kingdom the more we learn about ourselves. And there is scientific evidence that someone or something inexplicably brings order to chaos. So, why are these different belief systems are exclusive of one another? Can't both be true, realistically?
How did God create evil if he has nothing of evil in him?Why would you create evil if you are good? Isaiah 47:7 7I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. If God cannot do evil how did he create evil? If God is pure and good why create evil? Why create evil? Can't we all live in free will in paradise or heaven then why create evil?
How did an unchangeable God become a man? Trinitarians believe that God became man in Christ. However, God is supposed to be immutable or unchangeable. Thomas Aquinas states that the divine is pure act. How, therefore, did God (the Son) become man in Christ Jesus?
How did the early followers of the Abrahamic god think of other contemporary gods? At the time that the early Abrahamic followers worshipped their god, there were very many other, contemporary gods - of other tribes, of the Greeks, etc, etc. What did those early followers think of the other gods? - That they were simply figments of the other tribes' imaginations; not *real* gods at all ("I am the one true god")? - That they were indeed gods, but inferior to the Abrahamic god ("put no other gods before me")? Any ideas?
How is it the one creature God created in his own image is the one creature most capable of evil? I mean, God created so many different other animals that never do anything evil ever. They hardly ever bother anybody, except when it comes to their needs for survival. Now you talk about humans who are supposedly carefully made by God in his own image. The one species that is capable of advanced intelligence. The one species who God has given dominion over all other animals. And now, for the sole reason of disobedience (Adam and Eve and the Apple) humans are doomed to be inherently evil and each must accept Jesus or else fall into the fiery pits of hell. Does this sound right to you?
What is the story of three gods and the religion it came from? Where a dragon god killed a fatman god? I was told recently of a religion that believes that there was three gods at one point where one killed another and in doing so the other last god took the soul of the dead god to create existence....I think thats what I was told.
How many have lost their faith that God does and continues to bless America? Doesn't God just have to clean out the money changers?
Is knowing God the most important wisdom you will ever know? The world in which we live places great value on knowledge. But people don’t always strive to know the most important things. The truth is you may be extremely knowledgeable about insects, or stars, or the sciences. You may be very wise about those sorts of things and people might really admire you for that knowledge. That’s all well and good, but if you don’t have the wisdom of God, you’re missing the most important knowledge a man can ever hope to attain.
Does your god want to segregate humans into different religions? People of all religions claim their god or gods spoke to them. Either they are all wrong, almost all wrong, or it is a possibility and they could possibly all be right. People of different denominations speak in tongues, and the holy spirit's words are always interpreted as a confirmation of that specific denomination. Either they are all wrong, almost all wrong, or it is a possibility and they could possibly all be right. I don't believe in the supernatural, but if you are religious, please answer: does your god want to segregate humans into different religions and wish to maintain those groups separate, believing different things?
God works in mysterious ways, therefore we can do whatever we want no matter how irrational? Since God is not clearly defined nor understood by us mortals, God is infinity after all, it means we can do whatever we want on earth. And justify it as part of God's mysterious ways. Is that the case? I love religions. Amen.
Hypothesis :Can an invisible force like God that can interfere with every living things life exist ? Science people . Treat this question as a hypothesis : Dont think of God of God as a man witha beard .Think of him as an invisible force like gravity . Now work on the hypothesis : Can an invisible force that can interfere or determine our lives really exist ?
Is God not a perfect being, just as incorruptible as the heavens described by Aristotle? On page 130, Grant describes St. Ambrose's rejection of "Aristotle's incorruptible celestial ether, because this would imply the incorruptibility of the heavens. But the world is corruptible..." It seems to me that Aristotle's model of the outer sphere can be represented quite easily as God Himself, or even as the heavens in which He dwells. Is God not a perfect being, just as incorruptible as the heavens described by Aristotle? Or is Ambrose suggesting that there is a difference between the Earth and what lays beyond it. Even so, this still resembles Aristotle's conception of the Un-moved Mover 'allowing' the Mover to operate.
How many people believe in God without organized religion attached to your faith? I am just curious as to how many people believe in God that do not go to church, or read the bible. I mean no offense to anyone as to their faith.
How will God finally judge people based on according to their deeds & everything they did on earth? Who knows how will God judge people based on their deeds and actions and everything they said and did while they were on earth, will that determine if they go to heaven or hell to fry forever?
What is the difference between being god and having godlike powers? lets say, someone somewhere has exactly the same powers as god. living outside space and time, ability to create life, omnipresent, omnipotent etc. What is the difference between this being and the christian god? And lets say this being decides to show itself in our world soon, how would you tell the difference? Basically being omnipotent means the ability to make you think anything. No scripture quoting allowed.
What is God and how to believe in whatever it may be unless it is universe? How to believe in something in which you dont even know what it is? Why every religion is manipulative or used manipulatively? Why God cant be debated and questioned? Why religions dont evole to reflect science, culture and society?
Is God helping creatures to evolve into more advanced forms? Does god supply energy to creatures so they can evolve into more advanced beings? Is he responsible for evolution? If we evolved from slime, and god helped us evolve into magnificient human creatures, doesn't that qualify as a great miracle? Also, is it not interesting to assert that god's influence is responsible for humans walking upright? That is, god raised humans up so they would walk upright? Horrible answer, not awesome at all, Bill... Bobo: what is balance? Actually, bobo, I think that the sun was responsible for men walking upright. The sun is connected to the crown chakra, and it exerts a force upon the body, raising it. Actually, as long as there is a sun, even on other worlds, you will have bi-pedalism.... Jiraiya: Maybe you have fouind a reasonable scientific model there. On the other hand, you could be comparing apples and oranges... Paul: I would say that we are god's children, and that evolution is the process of growing up. God did not screw up, he just gave us the chance to grow into perfection, just like children get the chance to grow up.. Paul you said, "Evolution is a natural occurance and doesn't require input from God. All it requires is input from the environment; organisms evolve in response to environmental changes". Unless god is part of the environment....
Does stories in the old testament prove the existence of a malicious God? There either is a God or there is not a God. It doesn't support the contention that there's not a God to advocate that there is a malicious God. Pointing out the malicious acts of God in the bible is to point out to Christians the fallacy of their beliefs in God not to substantiate the existence of God. Whether he be malicious or without fault it is his existence not his morality that is in question. No God did not forsake the entire human race. A fantasy Sky Daddy does not have that capability.
What kind of psychological disorder would God be diagnosed with? Just for fun, if a psychiatrist were to interview God. What condition would God be diagnosed with? And what kind of treatment would he prescribe?
What kind of loving god would send someone to hell? What kind of loving god would send someone to Hell for jacking off or even stealing? Why did God create Hell? Does Hell even exist?
How did God show mercy to Jesus and Mary during the passion? what aspects from the last supper- the assention help us today? for example the last supper helps us because it instituted the Eucharist. Also how was God the father helping Mary and Jesus during the passion, how did he show mercy to them?
Why does God cry more often in some areas than others? It seems like he cries a lot more in Maine than Florida. Do Mainiacs make God cry more than Floridians? Whenever it rains, I pray to God to try to comfort him. Perhaps if more people prayed up north to cheer up God, it would not rain as much.
Why would God have placed the bones of dinosaurs in the earth to deceive man? Some people believe that the dinosaurs existed- I am one. Some people think that the fossils may have been put there by God. Why would he do that? What would be his motivation in it? Is there scripture to suggest that the dinosaur may have existed? I think that it's in the book of Job, Chapter 40 or something. It talks about Leviathan and Behemoth.
What is the idealogy where you believe god is like a clockmaker? It's the one where you believe god created the world but lets it create its own story. I'm just wondering because that's what I think. I do believe that god created the world but only intervenes a little in the world. I don't believe in prophets or anything similar to that.
What are the problems in this world between God and others? We have a Religion assignment (due Friday) and i want to know some problems between God and others. I reckon it's hard to think of so i need help. Thank you soooo much for whoever gives me an answer.
How could a loving god allow evil demons to tempt and corrupt us and ultimately lead us into hell? I think some of you will probably say "but it's our choice whether or not we choose to listen to him." But if he's really whispering in our ears and tempting us all the time, how can we not listen? Furthermore, what about those of us who simply can't believe in the god of the bible?
How could a perfect being such as God have existed before the creation of the Universe? With emphasis on before. If God exists, then who or what made God? It seems like the answer of God just creates even more questions than answers.
How can anyone worship a god that created a fundamentally flawed creature and damn him for that flaw? The flaw would be curiosity. I am talking about any god or goddess.
How are people who say God is good any different then Elihu? He's a bit character in the book of Job. Picks up around chapter 32, and fairly good, if you ignore the parts where God is telling him to STFU later on in 42. Christian version of God if you're wondering.
What is the best argument against the existence of God? I don't care if you believe in God, I just want to know what you think the best argument you've heard against his existence. Why would a loving God allow a woman without knowledge of Good vs Evil to be tempted? If Eve truly had no knowledge of good or evil before eating the fruit, as the bible claims, then she was incapable of discerning whether God or the Snake were good or trustworthy. Why would God not intervene during the temptation? Free will isn't good enough, because it isn't in play without discernment.....
